Physiotherapy in Abbotsford

Hands-on, one-on-one physiotherapy from registered clinicians so you can move freely, work toward your recovery goals and get back to the life you love.

What is physiotherapy?

Personalized care that gets to the source of your pain

Physiotherapy is a hands-on, evidence-based approach to treating pain, injury and movement problems. At New Ray Physiotherapy and Health Clinic in Abbotsford, our registered physiotherapists don't just treat the symptom you walk in with, we assess how your whole body moves to find the underlying cause, then build a treatment plan designed around your body, your goals and your daily life.

Whether you're recovering from a recent injury, managing a long-standing ache, rehabilitating after surgery or getting back to sport, physiotherapy can help you reduce pain, restore strength and mobility and move with confidence again. Every session is one-on-one with your therapist, focused, unhurried and adjusted at each visit as you progress.

Our approach combines manual (hands-on) therapy, guided movement and education, because lasting recovery comes from both treating the tissue and understanding how to keep it healthy. We'll always explain what we're finding in plain language and we'll discuss expected timelines with you after your assessment so you know exactly what to expect.

Good to know, fees & coverage

Physiotherapy is covered by most extended health plans and visit costs vary with the type and length of your appointment. Not sure what your plan covers? Call us with your plan details before you book and we'll help you check so there are no surprises at the front desk.

What to expect

Your physiotherapy journey, step by step

1

Assessment

We start by listening. Your physiotherapist asks about your history, symptoms and goals, then assesses how you move to identify contributing factors.

2

Your treatment plan

We explain what we've found in plain language and agree on a plan built around your body, your timeline and your daily life.

3

Hands-on treatment

Most visits combine manual therapy, guided exercise and education. You'll usually begin treatment the same day as your assessment.

4

Progress & prevention

We track your progress, adjust as you improve and give you the tools to stay strong and reduce the risk of the problem returning.

Our approach

Techniques your physiotherapist may use

Every plan is tailored to you. Depending on your assessment, your treatment may draw on a combination of these evidence-based techniques.

01

Manual therapy

Hands-on joint mobilization and soft-tissue work to reduce pain and restore movement.

02

Exercise therapy

Progressive, targeted exercise to rebuild strength, mobility and control at your pace.

03

IMS & dry needling

04

Acupuncture

Traditional needling points used to ease pain and support your body’s healing response.

05

Shockwave therapy

Focused acoustic waves that stimulate repair in stubborn, long-standing tendon problems.

06

Cupping therapy

Gentle suction to lift tight fascia, improve circulation and release restricted tissue.

07

Class IV laser therapy

High-intensity laser to reduce inflammation and speed tissue healing without needles.

When to see a physiotherapist

You don't need to wait for a problem to "get bad enough." The earlier you address pain or a movement issue, the faster it usually resolves. It may be time to book a physiotherapy assessment if:

  • Pain has lasted more than a few days or keeps coming back
  • An old injury still limits how you move, work or sleep
  • You're recovering from surgery, a car accident or a workplace injury
  • Stiffness, weakness or loss of balance is creeping into daily life
  • You want to prevent injury before a new sport, job or season

If any of these sound familiar, our Abbotsford physiotherapists will assess what's going on and build a clear, personal plan to get you moving well again.

Book an appointment
Do I need a doctor's referral to see a physiotherapist?
For most extended health plans you can book physiotherapy directly, with no referral needed. Some insurers or specific plans do require one so it's worth checking your policy and if you're not sure, give us a call and we'll help you find out.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Bring your insurance or claim details, any relevant medical information or imaging (such as X-ray or MRI reports) and wear comfortable clothing you can move in. If you have an ICBC or WorkSafeBC claim, bring your claim number.
How long is a physiotherapy appointment?
Your first assessment is typically around 60 minutes so there's time to understand your situation fully and begin treatment. Follow-up visits are usually shorter, your physiotherapist will let you know what to expect for your ongoing sessions.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your condition, your goals and how you respond to treatment. Your physiotherapist will discuss expected timelines with you after your assessment and adjust your plan as you progress. Some people feel better in a few visits; others benefit from a longer course of care.
Does physiotherapy treatment hurt?
Some techniques may feel uncomfortable at times, especially when working on a sensitive area but we always work within your comfort zone and welcome your feedback throughout. Let your therapist know how you're feeling at any point and they'll adjust.
Do you offer direct billing for physiotherapy?
Yes. We provide direct billing to most extended health plans so in many cases you won't pay the full amount up front. Bring your insurance details to your first visit and we'll take care of the paperwork wherever we can.
Can physiotherapy help with my ICBC or WorkSafeBC claim?
Absolutely. We welcome patients recovering from motor vehicle accidents (ICBC) and workplace injuries (WorkSafeBC). Bring your claim number to your first visit and we'll guide you through the process. If you have questions about coverage, call us before you come in.
What's the difference between physiotherapy and massage therapy?
Physiotherapy focuses on assessing and treating the underlying cause of pain and movement problems, often combining hands-on treatment with exercise and education. Massage therapy focuses on relieving muscle tension and supporting relaxation and recovery. The two often work well together and your physiotherapist can advise whether combining them would help.
What should I wear to my session?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing you can move in, activewear is ideal. Depending on the area being treated, it helps to be able to expose the joint or muscle we're working on (for example, shorts for a knee assessment). We'll always respect your comfort and privacy.
How soon after an injury should I see a physiotherapist?
Generally, the sooner the better. Early assessment can help you understand the injury, begin appropriate treatment and avoid compensating in ways that cause further problems. That said, physiotherapy can also help with long-standing pain that has been present for months or years, it's rarely too late to benefit.
How do I book a physiotherapy appointment?
You can book online through the button on this page, call us at 604-744-0555 or email info@newrayphysiotherapy.ca. We're open 8:00am to 8:00pm on Tuesday and Thursday, and 9:00am to 6:00pm on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and often have same-week appointments available.
